The

Phalaenopsis Sogo Pony is a compact, fragrant novelty orchid hybrid known for its waxy, long-lasting flowers that can vary in color and pattern, typically in shades of red, purple, and yellow. It is relatively easy to care for as a houseplant, thriving in bright, indirect light and consistent moisture.

Description and Characteristics
  • Hybrid Origin: The Phalaenopsis Sogo Pony is a hybrid registered by Sogo in 2000, resulting from a cross between Phalaenopsis Ching Her Buddha and Phalaenopsis Sogo Kaiulani.
  • Flowers: It produces attractive, rounded, waxy flowers that often have a distinct fragrance, which can vary (e.g., clementine zest, faint smoky bacon, or general sweet floral notes). The flowers typically feature a white or yellow background with splashes, spots, or gradients of dark purple or red, and the coloration can be influenced by light and temperature.
  • Growth Habit: It is a monopodial orchid, meaning it grows upward from a single stem, producing 1-3 new leaves per year. It is often described as a mini or micro-mini hybrid, making it suitable for growing under lights in compact spaces.
  • Blooming: It is known for its sequential and long-lasting blooming habit, with individual flowers potentially lasting for months on branching spikes.
Care Instructions
  • Light: Provide bright, indirect light, such as an east-facing window or a shaded south/west window. Avoid direct, intense sunlight to prevent leaf burn.
  • Temperature: It prefers warm growing conditions, with daytime temperatures between 75-85°F (24-29°C) and nighttime temperatures above 60°F (15°C). A drop to around 55°F (13°C) for several weeks in the autumn can help initiate new flower spikes.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly when the potting medium is nearly dry, typically every 7 to 10 days, depending on your environment. Do not let the plant sit in standing water to prevent root rot.
  • Humidity: Maintain humidity levels between 50% to 80%. You can increase humidity by placing the pot on a tray of pebbles partially filled with water, ensuring the pot does not sit directly in the water.
  • Potting Medium: Use a well-draining, porous orchid mix, such as a mix of fir bark and sphagnum moss. The mix should allow for good air circulation around the roots.
  • Fertilizing: Fertilize regularly during the active growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced orchid fertilizer at 1/4 strength with every watering, or at half strength twice a month. Flush the pot with plain water once a month to prevent salt buildup.
  • FLOWERING SIZE PLANTS IN 2,5 pots.
    send in spike when possible.
