Flowers are a more diminutive version of V. limbata’s; the silver lining is replaced here by a golden thread, and reverse side is not shaded white but yellow.Often confused with V. limbata but the leaves narrower and more deeply furrowed. V. limbata's lip is lavender, broad at base and gently tapering while V. mariae's lip is narrow, straight with two small calli, and is orange-red color
